Although many people argue it, storing all of your documents and data in the cloud is not always the best option. This article showcases when it is smart to store in-house.

Everyone is talking about the cloud these days but there are still some great reasons to keep your storage off of it. Sure, it may seem like a great idea and can clean up some space in your office but there are some downsides to it too, including security. There are many different stances on this subject but if you are on the fence about it, continue reading for some great reasons in Wichita to keep your storage in-house.

Data Storage

  • You have sensitive data you want to protect. One of the biggest concerns for companies who are looking to store data that needs protection is that the cloud cannot always provide it. There have been increased occurrences of cyber attacks that are aimed at getting sensitive data. If you want to avoid this, keep your data securely stored in house where cyber attackers cannot reach it.
  • Storing in-house can be cheaper. This is not always the case but it can happen. The cloud is supposed to be the cheaper alternative and while it may be when you look at the surface of the pricing, if you start to look at all of the fees and maintenance costs, it can add up rather quickly. If you have a lot of data you have to store, then your cost to store it in the cloud will be more than if you were to store it in-house.
  • Your corporate culture prefers on-site storage. Every corporate culture is different and if it makes more sense to have it readily available on the cloud, then that is what you should do. However, if your culture calls for more protection and getting to the data takes getting through some people, then on-site storage is a better option. You should take a look at how your company handles data sharing and determine which option best meets that expectation.
  • You want to avoid vendor lock in or being prevented from moving files. Although many people do not want to admit it, there are cloud vendors who may not give you back all of your data if you leave them. If you want to avoid this, you should maintain everything in-house so no one else has access to it and can prevent you from taking it back. Another issue company’s face is if they have a vendor who cannot support their growth, they likely will have to go to another cloud solution. Unfortunately, moving large amounts from the cloud to another cloud does not always work as planned and it can be impossible to move everything.
